Head to Head with Abdi Behravanfar, Khorasan Blues Pioneer
Abdi Behravanfar was born in 1975 in Mashhad, Khorasan, in northeastern Iran. By most standards, he began pursuing a career as a musician rather late in the day, but he quickly acquired an avid following among Iranian youth with a sound that melds popular Western styles -- rock, country, and blues -- with the rich heritage of Iranian folk music. His audience is a generation hungry for music that breaks with the past, understands the common frustrations of the time, and eschews the gaudy frivolity of the Tehrangeles pop scene.

Abdi Behravanfar; The album “Shalamrood”

The new album “Shalamrood” by Abdi Behravanfar is a solid Rhythm & Blues based album delivered in Persian. Musically the album is an unyielding presentation of great guitar riffs, strong 12 bar blues R&B arrangements all delivered with raspy, rich vocal presentations that makes the listener feel that they are in a back alley, gritty, smoky blues bar. On some of songs the electric guitar is put aside for a more folk rock sound of acoustic guitar and harmonica in the spirit of the likes of Neil Young & Dylan.

We started "MUD" in 2000 but after 2 concerts the band got stopped by government and was not allowed to have any performance, because the songs were real rock without censor. but we recorded them underground. "Vagh Vagh-e Sag" is one of them
